Editorial Policy, Sources & Simulation Limitations

Pupilla publishes educational simulations and learning material for optometry and ophthalmology. Our aim is to make the source, purpose and limits of each learning page understandable.

Publisher and review status

  • Pupilla is responsible for the published learning pages and simulator descriptions.
  • A cited author is the author of the reference, not a reviewer of Pupilla. We do not imply endorsement by a cited university or professional organisation.
  • No named independent clinical reviewer is currently published for these learning pages. A reviewer’s name, credentials, scope and review date should be added only after an actual review.

References and update dates

  • Page references link to relevant educational principles. They are further reading, not evidence that every simulator behaviour has been clinically validated.
  • An update date records a content change. It does not mean a medical review took place on that date.
  • External sources may change. Readers should compare the current reference with their curriculum and supervised teaching.

What the models can and cannot show

  • The simulations simplify anatomy, physiology, optics and clinical findings to support learning.
  • A simulated visual field, acuity estimate, eye movement or OCT example is not a measurement from an actual patient.
  • Pupilla is for education and training, is not a medical device and must not be used for diagnosis or treatment decisions. Real clinical work requires appropriate supervision and assessment.

Evidence and corrections

  • Feature descriptions refer to the supported tools. Saved progress and assessment features vary by module.
  • We do not publish invented ratings, expert endorsements, accreditation or claims of being the world’s best simulator.
  • To report an issue, use the public project issue tracker and include the page, the observation and a reference where possible. Do not include patient-identifying information.
