Eye Examination & Optometry Simulators for Educators
Bring the same learning objective from the classroom into a virtual patient. Pupilla combines browser-based tools with English and Arabic guides, so learners can prepare before a session and practise again afterwards.
Before the session: choose one observable outcome
- Choose a specific task: identify an RAPD, describe refixation, neutralize a retinoscopy reflex or read a lens.
- Share the simulator page and its related guide. Ask learners to predict a normal result.
- Check the chosen tool on the classroom device. A larger display helps with detailed diagrams; no installation is needed.
During the session: predict, observe, explain
- Demonstrate a normal baseline before an abnormal example.
- Change one variable and ask learners to describe what changed before naming a diagnosis.
- Use paired discussion: one learner operates the tool while another explains the finding, then swap roles.
After the session: assess the explanation
- Ask learners to document the finding, the mechanism and one limitation of the simulation.
- Use clinical questions or the optics assessment when appropriate to the learning objective.
- Available account results and progress features vary by module. This page does not promise a class dashboard, LMS integration or institution-level analytics.
Teaching and evaluation boundaries
- Simulations complement supervised clinical teaching and work with real instruments.
- Directory affiliations and leaderboards are not evidence of accreditation or institutional partnership.
- Independent evaluation should measure usability and learning outcomes with a stated protocol. No universal effectiveness or ranking claim is made here.

- Eye Exam SimulatorA virtual patient with 43 conditions: penlight pupil exam and RAPD, cover tests, Hirschberg and Krimsky, ductions and versions, cranial nerve palsies, INO, gaze palsies and nystagmus.Explore the simulator
- Retinoscopy SimulatorRead with and against motion, find the principal meridians and neutralize the reflex for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.Explore the simulator
- Lensometer SimulatorRead a finished spectacle lens on a manual lensometer: close the doubled American Cross mires on the power drum, find the axis on the unbroken thin line, take the cylinder as the difference of two readings, and watch Prentice's Rule put prism on the reticle rings.Explore the simulator
- Visual Pathway SimulatorPlace a lesion anywhere from the optic nerve to the occipital cortex and see the visual field defect, with lessons and a case quiz.Explore the simulator
